Visiting Hours Before Shivah

Question

If someone loses a family member, and does not have any shiva hours in your locality following the funeral because they are leaving town immediately after, but does have an ‘open house’ prior to the burial for those who wish to have a ‘shiva’ visit, is it permitted to visit?

Answers

  1. Yes, absolutely. Even though the deceased has not yet been buried, the immediate family are all mourners in a real sense, and it is permissible to comfort them, especially if that is what they are asking people to do.
