The Armed Battle

Question

As i have understood it, when the jews got out of Egypt they didn´t have any weapons with them But not long after when they were attacked by the Amalekites, they defeated them with swords. Ex 17:13 “Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.”

Where did they get the weapons (swords) from?

  1. Good question.
In the Book of Exodus, the Torah describes the Jewish nation as leaving Egypt with “arms.” (13:18)
Where did they get their weapons from? Answer: They took them from the Egyptians before leaving Egypt. They either took them from the many dead Egyptians or from those who were still alive and gave them up voluntarily because they were terrified from the deaths of the firstborn.
