Does one need to be very intelligent to understand the inner meanings of Torah?

    No. The Rabbis teach that what a person needs is a heart that is open to understanding the Torah and the pure desire to want to understand it. That does not mean that learning Torah is an easy thing to do – but it does mean that even if a person was never particularly blessed with intellectual prowess they can grow immeasurably in Torah knowledge.
