Tefillin Straps Facing In/Out

Question

As anyone who uses them knows, tefillin straps have a smooth black and a rough brown side. I learned one is supposed to don tefillin with the black side facing out. If one mistakenly dons tefillin with the brown side facing out, is it still valid?

    While it is true that it is preferable that the black side of the strap face outward, it has no bearing on the validity of the Mitzvah. Even if the black side faces inward, the person has fulfilled the Mitzvah in its entirety.
