Praying for Livelihood on Shabbat

Question

Is one who is so poor that they are in dire straits and desperate for money allowed to recite a personal petitionary prayer to G-d for a parnassa on Shabbat?

  1. While I truly empathize with someone in such terribly dire financial straits, it is better not to ask for material requests on Shabbat. There are moments, both right before Shabbat and immediately afterwards, which are considered to be very opportune times to pray for a good livelihood. Candle lighting time is a wonderful moment for such prayers, as are the prayers that are recited at the conclusion of Shabbat.
