Nursing Mother on Yom Kippur

Question

Hi – we have a 1 month old baby and he is exclusively breast feeding. Is the mother exempt from fasting on Yom Kippur? She doesn’t want the milk supply to be disrupted.

    In general, yes, a nursing mother is required to Fast. If there is any concern that this may pose a problem for the mother or baby, a local Orthodox must be consulted about the proper thing to do on Yom Kippur.
