Jacob Dwelled in Tents

Question

Shalom,

if I may ask another question regarding Jacob. It is said that he dwelled in tents. What does this mean exactly?

I was told that it meant he studied the Torah. Is this true?

Thank you.

  1. The Rabbis explain that the “tents” are a reference to the time that Jacob spent learning Torah in the tents of Shem and Eiver. The Oral Torah teaches that when Jacob ran away from Eisav, he stopped for fourteen years in the Yeshivot of Shem and Eiver. There, he sat and learned Torah, with such incredible diligence that he didn’t sleep a night in his bed throughout all that time.
