Electric Shabbat Candles

Question

Can I use electric Shabbat candles if I’m at a non Jewish camp that doesn’t allow fire? I’ll not turn them off until after Shabbat ends.

    It is permissible to use the electric lights in your room to “light Shabbat Candles”. When you are ready to light candles, all the electrical lights that will be used on Friday night should be shut off. The lights that are going to be used on Shabbos should then be turned on, with the intention that they are being turned on for the sake of the mitzvah of Shabbos candles.

    There is a disagreement among the authorities as to whether a Brachah is recited or not – Rabbi Aharon Kotler ruled that a Brachah should be recited, while Rabbi Moshe Feinstein ruled that a Brachah should not be recited. Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef ruled that a Brachah should be recited.
