Daniel 4:28

Question

“While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven: ‘O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken: the kingdom is departed from thee.” (Daniel 4:28).

Did Hashem talk with Nebuchadnezzar at that time? Please explain.

    The commentaries explain that the proclamation was not said to Nebuchadnezzar. Rather, it was directed to the Guardian Angel of Babylon. Our Sages teach that God does not depose a nation before first deposing its Heavenly representative.
