Dangerous Times

Question

I’ve heard that the four days between Yom Kippur and Sukkot are said to be the most dangerous days of the year. Statistically, is there a higher death rate at this time? Are the chances of dying really any greater?

  1. I have never heard of such a thing before.

However, there were studies done in Jewish old age homes that showed that immediately after both Pesach and Chanukah there was a recognizable rise in the number of residents who passed away. The research came to the conclusion that the reason is that many elderly people in the homes waited with enormous anticipation for the extra family time that both Pesach and Chanukah brought with them, and after the holidays ended they lost their will to live.
