Automatic Auctions on Shabbos

Question

Is it permitted to put in a bid for an auction if you know that it will end on Shabbos and that shipping and payment for it will not occur on that day?

    In theory it is permissible, as you are not actually doing anything forbidden on Shabbos itself. However, I personally would suggest that you not make such bids since it will likely make you think about it over Shabbos, which is definitely not the right thing to be doing on Shabbos.
