Are Dreidels Muktzah?

Question

Are dreidels muktzah? I never heard any such thing before, but my son’s rebbe says so because they are a gambling instrument.

    Dreidels on Shabbos are actually a complicated subject! It is forbidden to play with a dreidel on Shabbos for any kind of prize. This is so, regardless of whether the prize is real money or chocolate money (or anything else). Having said that, there are those who rule that it is permissible to play with a dreidel if there are no prizes at all. However, to ensure that there are no issue of Uvdin d’Chol, one should set aside a dreidel that is more beautiful than the rest of the dreidels for Shabbos use alone.
