Aleph and Ayin

Question

Are the Hebrew letters Ayin and Aleph both pronounced as A?
If so, can we use either one of them to write an A in Hebrew?

    No, they are two very different letters and they cannot be interchanged because, by doing so, the word will change. The letter Aleph is the equivalent of the letter ‘a’ in English. The letter Ayin has a more guttural sound to it.
