I am a Jewish college student and wonder: Why do we believe that there is a God?

I always have questions about Hashem even though I grew up frum. Whenever I read Stories of emuna and bituchon I cringe. I read enough hashkafa already and I still don't understand. I am in therapy for childhood abuse so I know my questions make sense. But still, do I have hope that one day I will understand that I don't have to understand? How can I read articles without feeling pain and resistance to every word that connects to God?

Today, there are great increase of atheism among youth, especially in the developed nations. In America, Europe, and North East Asia, atheism is gaining big amounts of followers. How about Jewish young people? Is atheism growing rapidly, just like in the most of the developed world? Or, is Judaism firmly established among Jewish youth?

What are Judaism's main beliefs?

Idolatry is the most condemned act in the Torah. What makes idolatry a more serious offense than murder? What makes it so believing an inanimate object has spiritual powers is a worse sin than irreversibly ending another person’s life? Obviously one can reverse the damage of praying to a piece of metal or stone made into a certain shape. But no one can ever undo taking away another’s life.

Shalom! A friend of mine asked me about the laws described as "everlasting statutes" in the Torah. She wanted to know what kind of laws these are and why it is stressed that they are eternal (since the whole Torah and its laws are eternal themselves)? I tried to find an answer myself but didn't get too far. Can you tell me if there are discussions about this in the Talmud or somewhere else? Thank you!
