Question
Dear Rabbi, A recently (last April) deceased family member is interred in Arizona. Almost the whole extended family, however, lives on the east coast. So that he could be remembered as part of our annual cemetary visitation in Massachusetts (where many relatives, including his parents, are buried) an inscription was added to the back of his parents' stone. Is it proper to say the El molay rachamim and the special kaddish for the graveside even though this is really not our cousin's grave? As it happened, this year we said some psalms and the standard kaddish, but the issue of leaving out the El molay rachamim was "brought up" and I was assigned the task of finding out whether we should recite it in the future despite the fact that the location of its recitation would not truly be at the grave of the deceased. Thank you, and shana tova. Ken Rosenberg
