About 5 yrs ago I was raped by a guy i dated. Since then i have moved and live across the country. My concern is my family & friends have disowned me. What is the purpose of the following mitzvos: Sukkah, Lulav and esrog? I work at a public school and was asked this question by a coworker. Also, I often get questions about judaism as i am orthodox. Many of them are about why jews do certain things. Often i don't know the answer even though I do those things myself. What would be a good response to :"why don't you know the reason if you do it?" Good Morning Rabbi My question is about Isaiah 11:8. The JPS version (copyright 1917; 1945) refers to the "basilisk". The KJ calls it a "cockatrice", and newer versions, both Jewish and Christian, use names like "adder" or "viper". What exactly is this creature? Is it real or mythological--was Isaiah writing about a non-existent reptile? Thanks for any help you can give. Ryan
