Life Support in Jewish Law

Question

Is being put on a ventilator for life support allowed in Judaism? If yes, is there a time limit for how long to be on a ventilator? Same question for a stomach feeding tube.Thank you. Richard Wallach

  1. Yes, absolutely. Judaism teaches that every moment of life is sacrosanct and, under normal circumstances, it would not only be permissible but it be absolutely the correct thing to do. However, a God-fearing person would consult with a recognized expert in both Jewish Law and medicine to ascertain exactly what to do and how to do it.
