What is the critera for a fruit or crop to become kosher?

    Outside of Israel there are no real criteria. Fruits and produce are Kosher to be eaten immediately. In Israel there are several Laws pertaining to fruits and produce that are relatively complex. For example, new fruit trees must be left for three years before their fruits may be eaten. Tithes must be taken from all fruits and produce. In all supermarkets and grocery stores in religious areas in Israel, the tithing is taken care of at source and there is a certificate to show that there is no need for concern.
