How Much Wine on Seder Night?

Question

Shalom aleichem Rabbi Lauffer. Thank you for answering my last question. By the Seder, does the amount of wine in the cup have to be at least a revi’is, or does only the actual cup have to be a revi’is-sized cup. In other words, if the cup is able to contain a revi’is of wine if filled to the absolute brim, would he still fulfill the mitzvah if the revi’is-sized cup is filled normally, but not to the actual brim? Thanks a lot.

  1. The cup has to hold a minimum of a revi’is of wine for the Seder. The correct thing to do, when possible, is to drink a revi’is of wine for each cup of wine, but if that is too difficult for the person, then they should drink “rov revi’is” for the last three cups. In any event, the cup much have a least a revi’is in it. That means that a cup that holds exactly a revi’is must be filled to the brim.
