    The High Priest – called the Kohen Gadol – entered the Holy of Holies, knows as the Kodesh haKodashim, only once a year, on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement).

    While inside the Kodesh haKodashim, the Kohen Gadol prayed several prayers, and these prayers were heard by the huge masses in the Temple forecourt.
