Answers
The only way that a wood-burning fireplace can be used on Shabbat is by making sure that it is lit before the onset of Shabbat and by not adding any more wood to it during Shabbat. This means that there must either be enough wood in the fireplace to keep it burning throughout the whole of Shabbat, or an alternative heating source has to be used (coming with a time-clock) once the wood has burned out.
