De-Facto Intermarriage

I just saw an earlier question on intermarriage and became curious, even though this is not me.
If a Jew intermarries, not knowing better at the time, has children, and then subsequently learns that their marriage is not permitted, are they required to dissolve a happy marriage and the stable lives of their children’s upbringing in a two-parent home in order to comply with the requirement to not be intermarried?

If a person wishes to live their life according to the Torah, then they would have no other alternative but to have to divorce, because being married to a non-Jew is completely and absolutely forbidden. Is such a demand “fair”? Is such a demand “humane”? Perhaps not, from a human perspective, but from God’s perspective it is an absolute.
