Custom for Lighting Candles

Question

Hi rabbi – I asked the question about lighting candles with a lighter.

If I am sphardi and my wife is ashkenaz does she change how she lights Shabbat candles to the sphardi custom or continue to say the bracha after lighting like her mom does?

    Even though a wife normally follows the customs from her husband’s home, interestingly enough, when it comes to candle lighting, the accepted custom is for the wife to follow her mother’s custom.

    However, if any matter might become a source of disquiet in your home, I would suggest that you then ask your local Rabbi for the acceptable thing to do.
