Answers
The wedding day is considered to be a brand new beginning for both the bride and the groom. They are beginning the process of building their own home together and to do so successfully they need to be in a state of spiritual purity.
This is why the wedding day is considered to be like a “mini Yom Kippur” – a day when their sins are forgiven by God. And that is the reason behind their fasting on their wedding day. Just as we fast to atone for our sins and purify ourselves on Yom Kippur, so too do the bride and groom fast on the day that they marry.
