Boar Hair Hairbrush

Question

This is regarding using hair brushes made from boar hair.

I read an answer by a Rabbi who said as long as you don’t eat it, it’s fine. But, according to Leviticus 11:8, it says:
“Their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch. They are unclean to you”

Doesn’t that mean we are not supposed to touch an unclean animal if it’s dead?

Isn’t the hair part of the carcass?

According to the Rabbi, pig’s hoofs and hair are kosher….what?

I have never seen or heard that before. Can you please confirm this for me?

    Great question, which shows your obvious familiarity with the Torah! The Sages in the Talmud and in the Midrashic text on the Book of Leviticus, Torat Kohanim, explain that the prohibition against touching an unclean animal is applicable only when a person comes to the Temple in Jerusalem during the Festivals. At Festival times we are commanded to be more careful so as not to bring any spiritual impurity into the Temple area.

    In addition, nowadays it is only the meat of non-kosher animals that is forbidden to eat, but products made from them are permitted to use.
