Aufruf on Thursday

Question

What is the source for having an aufruf on a Thursday, if one wants to make it then?

Saw this: “In the Ashkenazic Jewish community the aufruf ceremony is typically held on the Shabbat before the wedding; but it can also be held on a Monday or Thursday.”

The family finds it hard to make the aufruf on Saturday, since the wedding is on the next day – Sunday.

Thanking you in advance,

  1. The concept of an aufruf is that the community bids “farewell” to the Chosson (groom). It is generally done on Shabbos because that is the day that there are normally more people in Shul. The custom is for the Chosson to receive an Aliyah (be called up to the Torah) which is where the Yiddish word “aufruf” comes from.

Because the Torah is read on Mondays and Thursdays as well as on Shabbos, I suppose that it is possible to have the aufruf on one of those days instead. Having said that, I must admit to never having heard of an aufruf on a Thursday (or a Monday, for that matter). I would suggest that the family speak with the Rabbi of the Shul first, just to make sure that he is agreeable to the idea.
