is it true that it is an ayin hara to sleep facing the door?

  1. There is a custom that people refrain from sleeping in the direction that a body is taken out of the room by the Chevra Kadisha (burial society). However, the direction that the body is removed depends on the Chevra Kadisha. According to the majority of Chevrot Kadisha a body is taken out feet first. However, the Yemenite custom is to take the body out head first. Accordingly, if a person is not Yemenite he should sleep with his feet away from the door. Having said all that, it is a custom and not a Halacha and many people, including Yemenites, are not careful about the direction they sleep in.
