Help with Fasting in Ramadan
Question
I am a recent convert to the Islam. Ramadan has just begun. And I have to fast in the daytime for the month. This is so hard for me I am really struggling. I never did anything like this before. I know that Jews fast a lot. What is some advice you have as a Jew for getting comfortably through a daily fast?
Answers
There are no easy ways to fast. Some people can fast almost effortlessly and for others fasting is a terrible experience. I can only speak from my personal experience that one of the things that helps alleviate the difficulty of fasting is focusing on the reasons behind the fast. If there is a strong theological understanding it makes the fast deeper and more meaningful.
On a practical note, there are all kinds of natural products that can be bought in pharmacies to help you get through the fast.
