Someone once asked Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, one of the greatest Halachic Authorities of the previous generation, about a young woman who wanted to increase her marriage prospects by undergoing cosmetic surgery. He permitted it since the surgery is done with her will and is essentially for her good. Rabbi Feinstein’s ruling is mostly applicable to other procedures that would give a person more self-confidence and self-esteem.
