Wedding Crashing
Question
Is crashing a wedding forbidden? An acquaintance in my community is getting married? Many people I know are invited, but I am not. I guess they don’t consider me an important enough friend. I want to be there. If I showed up and maybe took the seat of a no-show guest, would I be doing anything wrong?
Answers
If you are certain that the Chatan will be happy to see you, and you want to attend because you want to bring the Chatan happiness, I think that you can “crash” the wedding. However, there might be a simpler way of being at the wedding without “crashing” it. Why not attend the Chuppah and be sure to say Mazal Tov to the Chatan? Or by attending the dancing later on, without sitting down to eat?
