The shoresh of the Hebrew word for war, מלחמה, is לחם, bread. What is the connection between bread and war?

    The Rabbis teach that most wars revolve around one nation wanting to conquer another because they want to gain control of their natural resources so that they can feed their own citizens. In effect, the motivation for most wars is to give the conquerors access to the ample produce – i.e. bread – that the conquered country has.
