Making a Zimun

Question

2 people made hamotzi, one said shir hamaalot and wants to make a zimmun, could a third person eat now and answer the mezuman?

    If they are Ashkenazim it is permissible for another person to wash and eat a kezayis and then they can bentsch together. It would be better if those who were already eating would continue eating until the third person has eaten his kezayis.
