Rabbi, please explain the phrase “nail in His holy place” as mentioned in Ezra 9:8. Thanks

  1. Rashi, the foremost commentator on the Torah, explains that a nail (or, perhaps, a more exact translation would be a stake) is referring to a firm place. Just like a stake that is deeply embedded in the wall so that it is immovable, so too God has left us a “stake” that is called the Land of Israel and the location of the Holy Temple.
