Deuteronomy 23:3: “Illegitimate Child”

Question

Deuteronomy 23:3 forbids an illegitimate child from entering the assembly or Temple.

But could they be participate in blessings, circumcision, offerings, etc?

  1. I know of no source in Jewish Law that suggests that a “mamzer” (a child born from a relationship that the Torah severely prohibits) could not enter the Temple or participate in religious rites. The only limitation deals with marriage to a “regular” Jew (and in this was prevents “joining the assembly,” as you phrase it).
