Head vs Tail

Question

“The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.” (Deuteronomy 28:13).

What does “the head” means?

  1. In Jewish thought the head is considered to be the most important part of the body as it houses the intellect. That is why, explain the Rabbis, the head is on the top of the body, making it the closest part of the body to the Spiritual Realms. The tail is the part of the animal’s body that is furthest removed from the head. Subsequently, the verse is teaching us that if we do the Will of God we are using our intellect to elevate ourselves to draw closer to God.
