Shemot 4:25 – Chattan Damim
Question
Then Zipporah took a flint, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet; and she said: ‘Surely a bridegroom of blood art thou to me.’ (Shemot 4:25)
Why did Zipporah cast it at the feet of Moses and say this?
I also think the verse have an inner meaning.
Please kindly explain the verse
Answers
The Maharal of Prague, in his commentary on the Torah called the Gur Aryeh, explains that originally Tzipporah (Moses’ wife) thought that Moses was
going to die because he had sinned in delaying his son’s circumcision. After the circumcision, she realised that the threat of death was a means to prompt her to circumcise her son immediately.

Why zipporah cast it on the feet of moses?
Tzipporah hoped that by touching Moses’ feet with the foreskin it would show the Angel of Death that the circumcision had been done which was the reason that Moses was under threat.
