Rabbis at Restaurants?

Question

I heard that rabbis are not allowed to eat at restaurants.

Are they able to buy food via takeout?

Are they able to just have a soda or French fries? Something that is not bread?

    What you heard is not strictly accurate. There is no “prohibition” against a Rabbi eating out at a restaurant (assuming that the Kashrut is of the highest standards). What might be a problem for certain Rabbis is the basic idea of eating in a public place.

    For example, there are certain Rabbis who will not eat in front of their students, or in places where men and women sit together. But that is a stringency that they believe is best for them rather than being a general rule.
